In this parody, Mac and PC are once again trying to prove dominance over the other. The main difference in this from the actual commercials is that this time, it's South Park style. As par for any PC vs Mac debate, the characters start to mud sling at each other. However, in the end, both computers freeze up and fail.
In what ways does each character (The PC and the MAC) try to prove that they're better than the other? How does the stationary white background affect the producer's desired effect of this clip? How does this parody differ from what you might remember from the official commercials? Overall, is the producer of this clip successful at what he/she is trying to accomplish?

I find it interesting how the PC is dressed in a suit, tie, and glasses compared to the Mac who is dressed in a t-shirt. It gives the impression how the PC has been around longer so the producers dress the PC character to look more as an adult. Conversely, the Mac is dressed up as a younger looking character, by only wearing a t-shirt, thus portraying the fact that the Mac has not been around as long as the PC.
I found it interesting how in the end both the mac and pc ended up breaking because the skit was trying to show that neither is better than the other. The collapse in the end concludes that both have there pros and cons, but neither is clearly better or free of problems. Furthermore, the skit shows both mac and pc as equals as compared to the actual commercials in which the pc is seen in a negative connotation.
This is a play on how both Mac and PC work so hard to prove that they are better than the other, when in fact, they both have their downfalls. I also found it interesting that Mac was dressed in younger clothes, as most of its users are younger and more tech-savvy, whereas PC is the more classic, office choice of computer. I did find it interesting that they used the exact same format as the commercials shown on television, with music and all to reach desired comedic effect.
I think this is interesting because it addresses the Mac vs PC issue in the light that it kind of deserves. It exposes the fact that the whole argument it just silly because in the end both are just computers. Even though the PC is dressed up in professional clothes to show how it is more successful and the Mac is in casual clothes to show it is cooler. These differences really wind up just being supperficial in the long run.
This is interesting because it reminds me of the Bush V Kerry Campaign in '04. Both Mac and PC are being attacked and no one is being persuaded by the creator to take a side in the argument for which is better. All computers have their downfalls and different computers are more or less preferred than others when it comes to people. People have individual differences and different experiences with PC's and Mac's which leads them to prefer one over the other. Bush and Kerry have people who prefer one over the other and they both have their downfalls, just like these computer companies.
South Park is a widely known show, so of course it is going to attract the customer eye. What I found funny was the fact that they use people to symbolize computers. It is like saying that computers have taken over the human identity and we now rely on computers so much. What is also funny is how they two characters are dressed. The PC is all fancy and efficient, while the Mac is not. From what EVERYONE says, isn't the Mac the next best thing to being the most efficient technology? Isn't it highly advanced? So how come in the commercial the person who represents Mac, is not looking so efficient and he looks like a casual teenager with dressed down clothing.
This clip has the exact same setup as the original Mac vs PC commercials but with a few minor differences which add to the overall humor. Furthermore, the stationary white background used focuses all of the viewers’ attention on the two characters and also makes the overall effect seem to be clean and simple. It also comes off as sterile which relates back to the fact that they are actually representing computers. Overall, I found in interesting how unlike the original commercials this are not aiming at selling a particular brand but instead offering a comment on all computers in general, that being, “computers suck”. All in all, by playing off the initial commercial and putting a spin on it the producers are successful at getting their point across.
I found that the background music provided an interesting contrast to the overall tone of the conversation between the PC and the Mac.While the music was airy and cheerful, the computers were argumentative and downright hostile. The white background emphasized the inherent equality of the two computer types- (no bright colors were there to mark one computer as more special than the other). The combination of background sound and and the otherwise friendly expressions on the computers' faces made the confrontation seem strangely out of place. In the end, I think the creators were successful in making the viewer feel as if all computers sucked equally bad.
I liked how the PC kept on talking about how it could play games. It shows how in commercials the producers spend all their time discrediting their competitors instead of focusing on what their product can do. Yes, playing games is fun but that is clearly not the best aspect of the PC. It just goes to show how consumers don't really care what they're buying. All you have to do is convince them that all the other products are worse.
I was really surprised at the end of the clip when both computers froze up. In these commercails the Mac and PC always focus on the highlights of their products and they both are found to be very credible. Having used both Macs and PCs, I had to laugh when the windows restarted on the PC and the Mac froze. When it comes down to it, both types of computers have flaws.
Do you think that this commercial is outdated since the new Lion software for Mac and Windows 7 has come out? If you were a person looking to purchase one of these computers which one would you purchase? Do you think this idea of bashing one another is effective when choosing which computer is better?
This video is very satirical in the way they show both PC and Mac. Instead of being like the real commercials and bashing only PC, this video shows the downside of both and gives the impression that one is no better than the other.
It was interesting to see the different ways that both types of computers attempt to out do each other. The PC attempts to make it meet like the more mature, professional choice while the mac attempts to make it seem like the young, cool choice. When they both collapse in the end it shows that nither argument really matters and they are both just computers.
It was really a nice video clip. At the beginning I thought it was an advertisment for Mac because Mac sent an email with attachment as a virus to PC and stopped it from working but then I realized that both of the computers have some sort of problems when Mac freezed while he tried to leave the scene. The video’s makers where successful when they picked South park characters as a satire theme beside the background music which is more close to video game’s music .the video's makers made PC looks like adult geek with suit, tie and glasses beside the Mac as young guy with hairdo and t-shirt to show that PC is more professional and Mac is more entertainment, but still in the end they implied that all computers have problems with the efficiency and functionally.
They make the mac come off as more "fun" and less professional than the PC because the mac isn't dressed up in a suit and glasses like the PC is. I found it funny that at the end of the clip they showed both the mac and PC having trouble and freezing. That helps prove the point of the end of the clip when it says "computers suck."
I absolutely love this commercial because it shows errors in both Windows and Mac computers. It starts off with a pointless conversation between characters that symbolize the computers. The PC is of course dressed like a businessman and the Mac as a cool kid, like in the real Mac commercials. PC makes fun of Mac for not having games, which I find hilarious because I own a Mac and I miss playing Minesweeper. Mac says he will no longer support PC’s files and sends a virus to PC, which causes him to have an error message. Mac tries to fix him by the good old “ctl, alt, dlt”, but PC just blue screens. This is hilarious because the blue screen is a terrible sign on a PC. I’ve heard it referred to as the “blue screen of death.” After, Mac tries to run away, but freezes. I’ve experienced my Mac freezing, although it is pretty easy to fix. I love how at the end it says computers suck. This ad proves that both Windows and Mac computers have issues and neither is better than the other.
